In reference to Eddy Warnick’s recent letter to the editor regarding the removal of roadside memorials along Route 36 (“Someone has taken away memorial crosses,” Aug. 25 Times-News), it is in my understanding that a new law recently took effect, which bans the creation of roadside memorials and the memorials were therefore removed by state highway personnel?

I ended the previous sentence with a question mark as I am not 100 percent sure that is indeed what has happened to the roadside memorials mentioned in Mr. Warnick’s letter.

If on the other hand they were removed by a vandal, it was a very insensitive act and the person/persons responsible must have entirely too much time on their hand/hands, and these person/persons could also be the very same individuals whom stole the balloons, and flowers that I put on my daughter’s grave site for her birthday? That in and of itself was a cold act, but not an incident related to the roadside memorials, I’m sure.

I very sincerely hope that the first scenario I mentioned is what has happened to the roadside memorials, as I am Alyvia Albright’s dad and personally, I do not need another reminder of the most horrible, tragic, and traumatic incident that has ever happened to me.

I realize that some would differ with my opinion, but then they may not have all the pictures that I have in my head, randomly playing through their head at any given time, of their own 8-year-old loved one lying in a hospital bed clinging to life, while I stayed there day and night praying that she would somehow make it as her body, bones, and organs were devastated from the accident.

And all the while knowing, that if she did pull through, she would have needed extensive rehab, as well as I being guaranteed by her doctors, that she would have some amount of brain damage, ranging anywhere from mild to severe.

They just didn’t know? And that for me, I believe, is more than enough to remember of that little spot on Route 36.
