Buchanans celebrate anniversary

FROSTBURG — William and Dora Jean (Shaffer) Buchanan commemorated their 50th wedding anniversary recently. The couple were honored at a dinner party of immediate family members hosted by their son, William, and daughter-in-law, Debra, at the Au Petit Paris Restaurant in Frostburg. Their granddaughters, Toni and Taylor, joined in the celebration.
The couple was married at the Howard Street Methodist Church in Hagerstown in 1958 by the Rev. Paul Conley. Hilda May (Shaffer) Resh and Jack Brining were the attendants.
William is the son of the late William and Catherine Buchanan of Hagerstown. He was employed as a pipefitter with Local 489 with Walter N. Yoder & Sons and All Seasons, Inc., until he retired in 1999. He is an avid hunter and volunteers as a senior instructor in Firearm Education and Hunter Safety in Allegany County in a program sponsored by the Department of Natural Resources for the State of Maryland.
Dora Jean is the daughter of the late Tonie and Elsia (Lewis) Shaffer of Cresaptown. She retired as employment manager of The Kelly-Springfield Tire and Rubber Company in 1987, with 26 years of service. Dora Jean is active in the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and is involved in community service through her membership in the Order of the Pythian Sisters and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Auxiliary 2883 in Cresaptown.
Dora Jean and Bill extend their appreciation and thanks to all the family and friends who have been a part of their married lives and for their cards and letters of congratulations marking this important occasion.
