Laymans celebrate anniversary

For the Cumberland Times-News

Happy 50th Anniversary, Mom and Dad
(Anthony and Alma Layman)
Married Feb. 21, 1958

Some people write bestsellers,
or pen the next hit song
but it takes more than talent
to make love last this long.
Imagine half a century
has passed since you began
as newly married man and wife
God clearly had a plan.
His blessings soon continued;
Your family did thrive; Steve, Kathy, Patty and Charles the big surprise!
You raised us up in faith and love
and taught us right from wrong.
Recall all those trips up to Lake and many to the farm!
Where did you find the patience?
How did you make the time?
You packed a million sandwiches
To help save a dime.
Well folks, it all was worth it!
Those memories still glow. We think of all we learned and shared,
So many years ago.
Time has a way of marching on,
the decades pass so fast.
That 12 grandchildren, and one great Grandchild now fill the shoes we four wore in the past.
Joshua, Matthew, Dustin, David, Heidi,
Nathan, John, Chad, Andrew, Amanda,
Hannah and Brittany their names are not so new!
Then there is great grandchild Keegan to make our hearts anew!
And now we’d like to take the time
to wish you all the best.
And after all these years, it’s clear
you two have aced time’s test!
You’ve done such good for others,
And stood firm in God’s grace.
God’s forgiveness in your struggles
gave us strength to face this race!
So here’s to half a century Of marriage and of bliss
If watching you has taught us, a lesson it is this;
Be good, be kind, be honest;
Honor God and family, too.
We’re all so very proud to say
That we are part of you!
After raising a family together in Gilmore, the Laymans were able to realize their dream of building a home on the family farm in Finzel, Md. They continue to live on the farm where many memories continue to be made together and with friends and family.
