Twila, Harold Fike celebrate 65th anniversary

Cumberland Times-News

LONACONING — Twila Mae and Harold Fike Sr. were honored with a dinner party celebrating their 65th wedding anniversary, given by their family at the Wilhelm Recreation Area. Approximately 225 family members and friends were in attendance. Harold and Twila Mae (Wilhelm) Fike, were married Nov. 18, 1944, at the Methodist Church in Frostburg by the Rev. Watson E. Holly. Mildred, the bride’s sister, and her fiance, James Green, were the attendants.

Following the honored couple greeting their guests, Lois Rowe and Connie Burdock, sisters of Mrs. Fike, sang a duet entitled, “To Me." Harold, Fike Jr. gave the toast, with the Rev. Daniel Agnew giving the blessing.

Immediately after dinner, Carol Frazee read a special tribute to her parents. Granddaughter Kendra Kenney sang “Two Sparrows in a Hurricane” and grandson, Jeffery Conner sang “When I Said I Do.” Each of the honored couple’s children and numerous family members and friends shared their memories and best wishes. Kendra Kenney and Jeffery Conner finished with a duet “God Must Have Spent a Little More Time On You.”

The cake was cut by granddaughters Autumn Frazee Barclay and Natalie Stafford.

The Fikes have resided at Avilton for their entire lives. They are the parents of five children, Carol and husband, Ward Frazee, of Friendsville; Linda and husband, James Conner, of Cumberland; Barbara and husband, Robert Johnson, of Greenville, Fla.; Joan and husband, Larry Kyle, of Cumberland; and Harold, Jr. and wife, Kathleen, of LaVale. There are 14 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Fike has been in the farming and timber industry and was also employed by Stanton’s Mill and the Garrett County Roads Department. Mrs. Fike has been a dedicated homemaker.

In addition to their occupations, both were, and are, extremely loving parents, grandparents and great-grandparents, and they have been amazing examples of love, commitment and generosity with open arms to anyone who needs help.

The Fikes have been active members for nearly 65 years of the Mount Zion United Methodist Church, Long Stretch, near Frostburg.

Out-of-town guests were from Delaware, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia.
