McDonalds celebrate anniversary

KEYSER, W.Va. — Howard and Betty McDonald, Keyser, celebrated 60 years of marriage with family and friends at the Short Gap Fire Hall on March 23, 2013.

The couple were married on March 21, 1953, at St. Paul’s Luthern Church on Centre Street, Cumberland, Md., by the Rev. Bowersox. They were attended by Charles and Shirley McDonald, brother and sister-in-law of the groom.

Mrs. McDonald, the former Betty VanMeter, is the daughter of the late Isaac Taylor and Alma VanMeter. She is a graduate of Oldtown High School and Catherman’s Business School. She was employed by First Federal Bank when she married and moved to Hagerstown, Md., where she was employed by Fairchild Aircraft.

Mr. McDonald, son of the late Archibald and Hazel McDonald, is a graduate of Fort Hill High School and was employed by Fairchild Aircraft in Hagerstown, Md., at the time of his marriage. Howard is a retiree of PPG and Westvaco.

Howard and Betty are the parents of four children: Sheryl (McDonald) Sharpless of Short Gap; Linda (McDonald) Vosburgh of Coral Springs, Fla.; Gregory McDonald of Jupiter, Fla.; and Michael McDonald of Keyser. They have nine grandchildren and seven great-grand children.

The couple were honored at a celebration presented by their children and overwhelmingly attended by family and friends from near and far. Harold McDonald, brother of Howard, and Myrtle Taylor, sister of Betty, were in attendance.

An anniversary blessing and prayer were offered by the Rev. Daryl Elliot of the Fountain Brethren Church. Music was provided by Bobby Foster, grandson, and photography by Desiree Kimble, Inwood.

The couple wish to express their appreciation for the love and respect given by their family and friends to honor them on this special day.
