‘Sandy’ and ‘Ernie’ Welch celebrate their golden wedding anniversary

— BARTON — Cynthia and Vernon Welch, Swanton celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a dinner held March 30, 2014, at the Barton Fire Hall.

The couple, better known as Eddie and Sandy or Vern and The Redhead, were married on Palm Sunday, March 22, 1964, at the Presbyterian Church in Piedmont, W.Va. The late Paul Iverson of Keyser, W.Va., was the officiating clergyman.

Sandy is the daughter of the late Foster and Marian Daniels and granddaughter of the late Lyman and Grace Wortman and the late Frank and Flossie Daniels. Eddie is the son of the late Bernice Welch Dearing and the late Vance Welch. His two sisters, Betty Miller and Patricia Kesner, are deceased.

The couple have one son, Edward Drew Welch, married to the former Nikki Shuhart, Littlestown, Pa., and one granddaughter, Ciera Nicole Welch.

All of the members of the original bridal party, with the exception of Susan Daniels Biddle and Earnest Blackburn, were present at the 50th anniversary celebration. They include David Daniels, ring bearer, brother of the bride, Keyser; William Borror, groomsman, classmate of the groom, Keyser; Edward Coffman, best man, cousin of the groom, Petersburg, W.Va.; Carolyn Lambert Paxton, matron of honor, friend of the bride, Livingston, Mont.; Diane Daniels DeMacio, maid of honor, sister of the bride, Virginia Beach, Va,; Sally Miller Atkinson, bridesmaid, classmate of the bride, Lonaconing; Tammy Lynn Daniels Blair, flower girl, cousin of the bride, Midland; Thomas Magruder III, groomsman, cousin of the bride, Alexandria, Va.; Susan Daniels Biddle, cousin of the bride, and Earnest Blackburn, cousin of the groom.

The Auxiliary to the Barton Volunteer Fire Department prepared the anniversary dinner and the blessing was given by Paul Wilson, a classmate of the bride, Bloomington.
