Knippenbergs celebrate anniversary

Cumberland Times-News

— CUMBERLAND — Denny and Pat (Blacklin) Knippenberg of Cumberland recently celebrated their golden wedding anniversary with family, friends and plenty of  laughter in Las Vegas, Nev. The couple was treated to a celebration dinner at the famous Golden Steer Steak House near the Las Vegas “Strip.” Travis Allen, noted Las Vegas Elvis impersonator, made a surprise appearance at dinner to sing a few of Denny’s and Pat’s favorite songs, including their wedding song, “I Want You, I Need You, I Love You.”

Born and raised in Cumberland, Denny and Pat were high school sweethearts, this despite Denny being a Camper and Pat a Sentinel! Denny was a 1958 graduate of Allegany High School  and Pat a 1960 Fort Hill graduate.

Denny and Pat were married on Jan. 27, 1962, by  the Rev. Ewald at Holy Cross Episcopal Church on Greenway Avenue. Maid of honor was the late Peggy Shumaker, with Vince Shumaker serving as best man.

Pat’s parents are Harry and Lillian  Blacklin of Cumberland and Denny’s parents are Cleo Knippenberg of Cumberland and the late Harold “Bud” Knippenberg.

The Knippenbergs are current members of Trinity Lutheran Church.

Denny started Knippenberg Insurance in 1967 and still enjoys meeting with his many long-time clients on a daily basis.

Denny and Pat have been supportive of the local community for more than four decades, being involved with numerous sports teams, youth leagues and a myriad of charities and local organizations. Pat currently volunteers for the Western Maryland Health System and in recent years, Denny has been instrumental in bringing to Allegany High School dozens of legendary music acts via the Tri-State Concert Association. Proceeds from the concerts benefit local high school music and arts programs.

Pat and Denny have three children, Craig Knippenberg and wife, Erin, of Cumberland:  Kim (Knippenberg) Iannantuono and husband, Scott, of Phoenix; and Michelle (Knippenberg) Mosser and husband, Bryan, of Bel Air. They also have seven grandchildren, Kristen, Lauren and Kelsey Knippenberg, Ben and Jack Iannantuono and Lily and Ava Mosser.

The Knippenbergs enjoy traveling and golf,  but especially enjoy spending time with their family and close friends.

Happy 50th anniversary.

Love, your family!
