Bear season opens for tenth year in Maryland

Paul Peditto, director of the Maryland Wildlife & Heritage Service, left, observes as Nick Stonesifer examines a bear harvested on day one of Maryland’s six-day bear season at a check station in Mount Nebo Monday. WHS has set a harvest range of 95 to 130 bears, but may stop the hunt early if the level is reached before Saturday. 41 bears had been checked in as of 9 p.m. Monday.
