Man posts $125,000 bond

CUMBERLAND - Willis T. Clark, 19, posted bond late Wednesday for pre-trial release from the Allegany County Detention Center. His next court appearance is scheduled for April 13.

The Bedford, Pa., man was jailed on two counts each of attempted murder, assault and handgun charges and felony drug charges - all stemming from alleged repeated attempts to shoot two Maryland State Police troopers during a traffic stop last November on state Route 36 in Barton. Clark's loaded .40-caliber handgun failed to discharge before the troopers returned fire, striking Clark several times.

Clark was hospitalized for several weeks in Baltimore and was later jailed in Blair County, Pa., before waiving extradition last Saturday.

He was jailed on $100,000 bond on the attempted murder and other charges and an additional $25,000 bond on the felony drug charges that were filed Tuesday.

Clark is scheduled to appear in district court for a preliminary hearing April 13 at 9 a.m., according to court records.

Pa. man jailed on charges

CUMBERLAND - A Claysburg, Pa., man was arrested on various charges and a fugitive warrant when he was stopped while operating a stolen vehicle Wednesday on U.S. Route 220 north of Interstate 68, Maryland State Police said.

Kenneth Lee Ritchey, 25, was charged with driving under the influence, auto theft and cited for speeding and driving with license privileges suspended following the 1:40 p.m. stop by Tfc. J.A. Farrell.

A computer check during the stop showed the vehicle operated by Ritchey was reported stolen in Bedford, Pa., and a warrant was on file for his arrest in Utah where his driving privileges were suspended.

Ritchey was charged with DUI after he failed sobriety tests, police said.

Following a bond hearing, Ritchey was jailed in the Allegany County Detention Center on $7,500 bond.
