More than 60 units to participate in annual Veterans Day Parade

KEYSER - More than 60 units have signed up to participate in the 2007 Mineral County Veterans Day Parade, slated for 1 p.m. Saturday in downtown Keyser.

The parade will line up on the side streets in South Keyser and move north on Main Street, turning right onto Armstrong Street and disbanding in the area of the Mineral County Courthouse.

The parade this year is being held in memory of three area veterans - Russell S. Beatty, who fought in World War II; Madison T. White, who fought in the Korean War; and Ronald Gulbronson, who fought in Vietnam.

The lineup is as follows:

*Cross Street: Color Guard - U.S. Navy Sea Cadets; Ronald Gulbronson and family, family of Madison T. White in a 1989 Ford Thunderbird, the family of Russell Beatty, Girl Scout Troop 730, Fort Ashby VFW Post 6667, the Fort Ashby Volunteer Fire Department, and the Early Editions Street Rodders.

*Lincoln Street: The Keyser High School Band, Girl Scout Troop 27, Keyser City Councilman Marques Rice, Mineral County Commissioner Cindy Pyles, Mineral County Clerk Lauren Ellifritz, and Circuit Clerk Mary Margaret Rinehart.

*Maryland Street: Mineral County Magistrate Sue Roby, Delegate Allen Evans (District 48), Delegate Ruth Rowan (District 50), Delegate Robert Schadler (District 49), Sen. Jon Blair Hunter, Sen. Dave Sypolt, West Virginia Attorney General Darrell McGraw, and the New Creek Volunteer Fire Department.

*Chestnut Street: Jerry Bland, combat engineer, who did two tours with the U.S. Army in Vietnam, with his USMC Jeep, Marine Corps League, Mountainside Marines, United States Marine Corps Iwo Jima veterans, Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus Chief Taney Assembly, the Mineral County Democrat Executive Committee, Nancy Hanks Post 3518 VFW, Nancy Hanks Post 3518 Auxiliary, Vietnam veteran John Halterman, and the Keyser EMS.

*Virginia Street: Norman Ravenscroft and his 1973 Jeep Commando, Keyser American Legion Post 41, World War II veteran Willis Shumaker in a 1989 BMW, Korean War, World War II Army Air Force, and Berlin Air Lift veteran Nick Boinovych, U.S. Army recruiter Sgt. Joseph Hanline, Boy scout Troop 27, Traveling Mommas Red Hat Society, and Valley Medical Transport.
