Growing up in Cumberland, I've watched Rep. Bartlett cast votes for our community all my life. Recently, Rep. Bartlett had an opportunity to take a stand on clean drinking water and public health. In a series of crucial votes impacting our environment, the U.S. House of Representatives voted on whether to continue to protect our coasts from oil drilling, safeguard our streams and wetlands from unlimited pollution, and ensure the public's right to know about toxic chemicals in our communities.

Rep. Bartlett deserves our applause for voting to stop new off-shore drilling on our coasts and require toxic polluters to continue reporting their emissions.

Unfortunately, Rep. Bartlett let our environment down by voting against amendments to enforce the Clean Water Act for all America's waters.

In light of the Bush administration's continued efforts to weaken longstanding environmental laws that defend our water, air and land, it is critical that Rep. Bartlett consistently stands up for our environment, without exceptions.
