Allegany earns split with Barefoot shutout

CUMBERLAND — Austin Barefoot fired a two-hit shutout for Allegany College of Maryland in a 1-0 win over Montgomery-Germantown to help the Trojans to a split of their Maryland JUCO doubleheader.

Jake Taylor threw a complete game, allowing two runs on seven hits and striking out six for Germantown in its 7-2 win in the first game.

Greg Turlik produced three runs on two hits and Jeremy Ponafala added three hits and an RBI for the Raptors.

Dylan Corl led the Trojan offense with a triple, double and single. Brandon Miller chipped in two hits. Ethan Thoms pitched into the fifth, allowing seven runs, only three of them earned.

Barefoot had seven strikeouts and walked two to get Allegany the split in game two.

Jeff Morgan scored the only run the Trojans would need after reaching on an infield hit in the fifth. He went to second on a wild pitch and scored on a single by Blayne McGuirk.

Allegany (14-16) hosts the College of Southern Maryland Thursday for a doubleheader at 1 p.m.
