Farrady splits doubleheader

CUMBERLAND — GAITHERSBURG — Frostburg Farrady erupted for eight runs in the third inning and routed Gaithersburg Post 104, 10-3, in the second game of their Junior American Legion doubleheader on Sunday.

Gaithersburg won the first game 6-4.

Mikeā€ˆStrietbeck doubled and singled, Michael Livingston tripled and Colton Winner singled twice in the Farrady win.

Jake Hafer and Garrett Whitacre combined on a four-hitter.

Farrady lost the first game despite outhitting Gaithersburg 11-9. Livingston led the way with a triple and two singles, while Brady Folk doubled and singled, Whitacre and Justin Wilson doubled and Hafer singled twice.

Mark Buonoma had three singles and Matt Kwiakowski a triple for Gaithersburg.

Frostburg Farrady (2-6) plays Jefferson on Saturday at Musselman High.

 

Fort Cumberland drops pair

CUMBERLAND — Gaithersburg Post 295 pushed across a pair of runs in the top of the seventh inning to beat Fort Cumberland, 5-3, and complete a sweep of their doubleheader at Legion Field.

Gaithersburg won a five-inning first game, 11-0.

Michael Wright and Jack Hawkins singled to account for the only Cumberland hits in the first game.

Parker tossed a two-hit shutout and struck out eight for Gaithersburg. Thibeau homered and singled.

In the second game, Hawkins hit an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth to tie it 3-3, but Koneche singled home the go-ahead run in seventh to put Gaithersburg on top to stay.

Hawkins doubled and singled and Trevor Evix singled twice for Fort Cumberland (4-6), which plays a doubleheader at Jefferson on Thursday.
