Northern 6
Southern 4
ACCIDENT — Trevon Jones put out the fire that was Southern’s seventh-inning rally and Northern hung on to beat the Rams and advance to the Class 1A West Region, Section I championship game.
Trailing 6-1 in the top of the seventh inning, Southern was able to get a pair of runners on base with two outs before Derek Hinebaugh cleared the bases with a three-run home run that sliced the score to 6-4. Jones came on in relief after the home run and induced a pop up to first to end the game.
Northern used a home run of its own in getting a quick 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Brett Oates, who would also single, drove in the final two runs of the inning with a home run that gave the Huskies a 3-0 lead. Freshman Logan Yommer added a double with an RBI and winning pitcher Aaron Rodeheaver doubled and singled.
