BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. — Brian Powell fired a four-hitter and struck out 11 as the defending champion Tri-State Titans swept a doubleheader from the West Virginia Powerhouse on opening day in the Pen-Mar WV Baseball League Saturday afternoon at Berkeley Springs High School.
The Titans won the opener 13-3 and took the nitecap 5-2.
Powell did not allow an earned run in getting the victory in the first game.
Jacob Foreman belted a two-run homer, Drew O’Neal had two hits and four runs batted in and Sean Collette also had two hits to lead the Titans attack in the first game.
Mike Swink, after two batters had reached on errors, hit a three-run homer for the Powerhouse.
Chris Stein scattered 10 hits and allowed only two runs in getting the second-game win. Foreman, Collette and Tristan Beyer had two hits and Matt Wright smacked a double for the Titans.
Sean Forney and Matt Taylor had a pair of hits for the Powerhouse.
Tri-State and West Virginia square off again today at the Hot Stove Complex at 1 p.m.

BEL AIR — Nathan King and Scott Cooper combined to allow one run on seven hits as the Oakland Oaks opened the season with a 7-1 victory over the Cumberland Orioles.
The Oaks swept the twinbill with an 11-3 win in the second game.
In the opener, King and Copper teamed for seven strikeouts. Cory Helbig led the offense with three singles, Cam King had two singles and Jashanno Sweeting doubled and singled.
Ben Russell doubled and Brandon House had an RBI single for Cumberland’s two hits.
In the second game, Coby Toothman, who pitched the first five innings, and Cooper combined to punch out 10 for Oakland and were backed by a 13-hit attack.
Tommy Reams tripled and singled, Ian Humphrey singled three times, Michael Logsdon and Nathan King doubled, and Jason Ashby and Bryan Lenhart singled twice for the Oaks. Cody Jefferys and Austin Cook doubled while Roy Jefferys and Ethan Landes singled twice for the Orioles.
Oakland (2-0) and Cumberland (0-2) play today at 1 p.m. at Southern High.
