SHORT GAP, W.Va. — Gary Cosner led a potent Falcon attack with three hits, two runs batted in an two runs scored as Frankfort finished the regular season with a 10-0 win over Springs Mills Thursday.
Freshman Brett Whiteman had eight strikeouts, no walks and allowed five singles in a complete game shutout in his varsity debut.
Cosner’s double and two singles accounted for three of Frankfort’s 14 hits, and Hunter Jenkins scored two runs with a pair of singles. Cole Smith hit an RBI double, Garrett Shoemaker had a single, RBI and run scored and Gavin Mauzy scored twice to go with a double and a single.
Frankfort (15-11) plays in the West Virginia Class A Sectional Playoffs beginning Tuesday, 4:30, when it hosts Keyser in a best-of-three series.
The Falcons split a doubleheader with Berkeley Springs on Wednesday, dropping the first game 4-1 before taking the second 3-1.
Justin Hovermale had 10 strikeouts and gave up three hits as the Indians took the opener, but Frankfort got nine hits and held Berkeley Springs to three hits in the second game.
Braiden Popluhar hit a double, single and drove in a run and Cole Smith had a double and a single. Jenkins scored two runs and had a single and Gavin Mauzy singled in a run.
Popluhar and Gage Shaffer combined for 11 strikeouts in the win.
Pendleton 18, Tucker 0
PARSONS, Pa. — Luke Yokum tossed a five-inning no-hitter and also had a pair of singles and two RBIs as Pendleton routed Tucker in its regular-season finale.
Yokum struck out 11 in five innings in his gem. The Wildcats staked him to an early 7-0 lead, then blew the game open with 10 runs in the third inning.
Jacob Lambert and Logan Cooper had two singles and two RBIs for Pendleton (19-8, 12-2 PVC).
The Wildcats begin a three-game sectional playoff series with Pocahontas County on Tuesday, at home, at 6:30. Game 2 will be Wednesday at Pocahontas at 5 p.m.
Turkeyfoot 18, Union 0
MOUNT STORM, W.Va. — Josh Metheney doubled, singled and knocked in five runs to lead Turkeyfoot over Union.
Winning pitcher Andrew Kemp added two singles, two stolen bases and an RBI and Tyler Smith had two singles, three stolen bases and an RBI for the Rams (3-11), who scored in every inning.
Kemp allowed only one hit and struck out 11 in the five-inning game. Candon Curry broke up the no-hit bid with a leadoff single in the fifth for Union (1-15).
Hunter Norris, who relieved in the second inning, had five strikeouts for the Tigers, who begin sectional play on Monday, at 4:30, at Tucker County.
Fort Hill JV 7, Southern JV 1
CUMBERLAND — Austin Farrell and Austin Martin hit home runs and Braden Scott fired a four-hitter to send Fort Hill past Southern in junior varsity baseball on Thursday.
Farrell hit a three-run homer in the first inning and also singled, while Martin had a solo homer in the third and two singles. The two combined for five of the Sentinels’ seven hits. Noel Weber doubled.
Stott took a shutout into the seventh and finished with a four-hitter with nine strikeouts and three walks.
Lohr and Nazelrod doubled for Southern.
Fort Hill ends the season at 5-5.
