Horner’s hit lifts Team One to 4-3 win

FROSTBURG — Corey Horner smacked a two-out, two-run triple in the top of the seventh inning to rally Team One Auto Mall to a 4-3 win over Frostburg Legion on Friday for a spot in next week’s Hot Stove League semifinals.

Team One’s seventh-inning rally began with a one-out single by Brandon Cline. Shawn Markwood reached on a fielder’s choice and with two out Ryan Roszell singled. Horner ripped a triple down the left field line to score Markwood and Roszell.

Horner got the win with three innings of relief work, including a scoreless bottom of the seventh.

 Joe McCloskey had an RBI single in the third when Team One took a 2-0 lead.

Frostburg Legion went up 3-2 in the fifth with Brett Ishler and Ethan Hovatter getting RBI singles.

Team One starting pitcher Kris Tusing threw four scoreless innings and also came up with a defensive gem in right field that kept the Legion from having an even bigger fifth inning.

With two on and none out, Tusing made a diving catch in deep right field and threw to second to double up a baserunner in a 9-4-6 relay.

It was the fifth double play that Team One shortstop Markwood was involved in during the series. He took part in three double plays in the series opener, two being unassisted.

Mike Livingston allowed one hit and struck out seven in four innings for Frostburg Legion.

The visiting team won all three games in the series.

Team One’s semifinal series begins Monday against an opponent yet to be announced.

POTOMAC PARK — Jeff Kidd went 4 for 4 and Tanner Coughenour belted a pair of triples as Bedford Thomas Chevrolet evened its first-round playoff series with Greg’s Auto Body at Memorial Field.

Luke Waugerman added a triple and double for Thomas Chevrolet (16-2-2), which scored in six of the seven innings but didn’t take the lead for good until getting five runs in the sixth.

Josh Hickey and Kidd, who relieved in the sixth, combined on a four-hitter. Hickey struck out 10 in five innings.

Brady Norris doubled and singled  and Brad Younker doubled for Greg’s Auto Body.

The final game of the three-game series is today, at 3 p.m., at Memorial Field.
