Shimko, Kahl lead Farrady to sweep

— FROSTBURG — Dylan Shimko fired a two-hit shutout in the opener, and Peyton Kahl capped a four-run rally with a walkoff single in the nitecap as Frostburg Farrady Post 24 swept Winchester Post 21 5-0 and 12-11 in Junior American Legion baseball Saturday at Mountain Ridge.

In the first game, Shimko was in control from the start, walked four and struck out nine in a complete-game shutout. Farrady took an early lead with two runs in the first inning, and was up 4-0 after three. Lucas Lowery hit two singles and Meshach Metz had an RBI single.

In the second game, Farrady trailed 11-7 entering the bottom of the seventh, but rallied for five runs to complete the sweep. Michael Livingston led off with a double and Lucas Lowry drew a walk. Brady Folk, Drew Shimko and Lucas Lowery followed with RBI singles, setting the stage for Kahl’s game-winning RBI single.

Livingston ended up with two doubles and a single, Drew Shimko had a double and two singles and Folk and Dane Lutton two singles for Farrady, which had 12 hits. Brandon Murphy had two doubles and a single, Mike Coudon a double and single and Jason Thompson two singles for Winchester.

Frostburg Farrady (11-8) will play in the Mountain Maryland Junior American Legion Classic, a 17-team tournament that begins Wednesday and ends with championship games on Saturday. Games will be played at the Hot Stove Complex fields, Legion Field in Cumberland and at Frostburg State.

On Wednesday, Farrady plays Jefferson at 10 a.m. at Holler Field and Frederick at noon at Memorial Field.
