Grantsville splits pair of doubleheaders

— MCHENRY — Aaron Broadwater pounded out six hits and knocked in four runs on the night as Grantsville swept a doubleheader from Preston, 19-11 and 14-0, in American Legion action Wednesday at Garrett College.

Grantsville won the first-game slugfest despite being outhit 15-12. Broadwater hit a two-run double and a pair of singles to lead the attack. Ryan Gallucci, Brooks Carr and Jerad Fike had two singles, with Gallucci knocking in two runs and Carr one. Hunter Hill chipped in with an RBI single.

Grantsville led 5-1 after the first inning and was in control 11-3 after two.

Jeremy Pyles hit three singles and knocked in four runs while Levi Nolan had a two-run double and two singles for Preston.

In the five-inning second game, Fike took a no-hitter into the fourth and finished with a one-hit shutout, one walk and 10 strikeouts.

Broadwater again hit a two-run double and two singles for Grantsville, which led 9-0 after two innings and finished with 10 hits. Seth Holler had two singles and an RBI, Austin Graham stroked a two-run single and Hill had an RBI double.

Kaleb Atkinson had an infield single with one out in the fourth inning to account for Preston’s lone hit.

Grantsville (4-15) hosts Potomac Valley in a doubleheader on Sunday at 3 p.m. at Garrett College.

POTOMAC PARK — Fort Cumberland jumped on top of Grantsville early and held on for the victory in game one, and Josh Van Meter tossed a four-hitter in game two as Fort Cumberland swept a Mountain District doubleheader Tuesday night at Memorial Field.

In the opener, Post 13 led 9-0 after a five-run second, and held on after being outscored 8-1 the rest of the way. Dylan Shockey hit an RBI double and two singles, Colton Sivic had a double and a single, Brandon Markwood two singles and two RBIs, Brandon Stotler two singles and Van Meter a double for Fort Cumberland.

Hunter Hill had a double, a single and two RBIs, Brooks Carr hit a double and a single, Austin Graham two singles and Ryan Gallucci an RBI single for Grantsville.

In the five-inning nitecap, Shockey drove in four runs with two doubles, including one that came with the bases loaded and knocked in three, to lead a 14-hit Fort Cumberland attack. Sivic smacked three singles and knocked in a run, Blake Hillegas had two singles and Josh Delaney had an RBI single.

Seth Holler had an RBI single for Grantsville.
