Grantsville defeats Post 13 on homers

CUMBERLAND — Brooks Carr, Pat Sines and Kyle Rosenberger belted home runs to power Grantsville Post 214 to an 8-4 victory over Fort Cumberland Post 13 on Friday in American Legion action.

Carr and Sines led a 13-hit attack with three hits as each homered and singled twice. Mason Dick doubled and Logan Stewart had two singles.

Grantsville never trailed. Dick’s two-run double in the second and Carr’s two-run homer in the third helped the Garrett Countians build a 5-1 lead.

Fort Cumberland, with solo home runs by Chris Fram in the third and fifth innings and RBI singles by Ryan Briner and Trenton Eirich, chopped the score to 5-4 after five innings.

But Grantsville stayed on top as starting pitcher Jerad Fike and reliever Keith Chapman teamed for four consecutive scoreless innings. Rosenberger added some insurance, too, with a two-run homer in the seventh.

Fike struck out seven through six innings for the win while Chapman earned a save with three perfect innings of relief.

Grantsville (6-4, 2-1 Mountain District) hosts Potomac Valley today in a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Garrett College.

Fort Cumberland will play Potomac Valley on Sunday, at Petersburg High, in a 2 p.m. doubleheader.
