Kean’s homers power FSU over York, 15-7

FROSTBURG — Kevin Kean hit a pair of home runs, including a three-run shot in a seven-run second inning, to power Frostburg State to a 15-7 win over York in the opening game of their three-game Capital Athletic Conference series Friday at Bob Wells Field.

Rob Jennings and Dylan Shupe also homered for the Bobcats (19-11, 6-7), who scored seven runs in the second inning and seven more in the fourth.

Shupe led off the seven-run second with a homer and Jennings capped the scoring with a solo homer after Kean had cleared the bases with his three-run shot later in the inning.

Matt Donaldson and J.K. Filauro had RBI doubles and Jennings a two-run single in the seven-run fourth.

The Bobcats had 16 hits, with eight going for extra bases. Shupe was 3 for 5 with a homer, double, single and two RBIs, Kean 2 for 4 with two homers, three runs and four RBIs, and Jennings 2 for 4 with a homer, single, two runs and three RBIs. Filauro doubled and singled, Donaldson and Garrett Price doubled and Zach Keeler singled twice.

Four FSU pitchers teamed for nine strikeouts. Reliever Kyle McCormack pitched two innings for the win.

Adam Bartholomew had three singles and Dustin Workman and Derek Pitzer two for York (15-14, 5-8), which stranded 10 baserunners.

The teams play a doubleheader today at 1 p.m.
