POTOMAC PARK — Winning pitcher Hunter Hill doubled, singled and knocked in two runs to lead Lakeview Auto Parts to a 10-5 victory over Thomas Chevrolet for a sweep of the Hot Stove League championship series Sunday at Memorial Field.
Lakeview Auto Parts swept the best-of-three, rain-delayed series 2-0 and finished the year with a 25-1 record. The Garrett Countians won the series opener 4-0 last Monday, and had the second game suspended by rain on Wednesday and Thursday before being able to complete it Sunday afternoon.
Lakeview took a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning when the game began on Wednesday. After three hit batters, Tyler McClintock hit an RBI single and Clark Morin an RBI double.
Rain suspended the game in the first inning on Wednesday, and again on Thursday after Thomas had tied it with four runs in its half of the first inning that included an RBI single by Matt Cline and a squeeze bunt by James Clark.
Rain stopped the game at that point, and it resumed Sunday with Thomas have in the bases loaded and one out in the first inning. Hill got out of the inning with a force out at the plate and an infield pop up to keep it 4-4, and didn’t allow a run over the next five innings.
Lakeview broke the tie in the fourth when McClintock drew a bases-loaded walk, then pulled away with a three-run fifth and a two-run sixth.
Calyb King led off the fifth with a single, Bryce Jones singled and Jimmy Spear walked to load the bases. Aaron Rodeheaver knocked in a run on a fielder’s choice, and Hill smacked a two-run double to make it 8-4.
Jones finished with a double and single, King had two singles and Morin, Brooks Carr and Logan Yommer doubled for Lakeview.
Robert Hernandez hit three singles and Luke Waugerman had two singles for Thomas Chevrolet, the American League champions who finished the year with a 21-4-2 record.
