Oakland, Tri-State sweep Sunday twinbills

CUMBERLAND — OAKLAND — Bryan Lenhart and Jason Ashby homered in the first game, and Tommie Reams and Nathan King homered in the second to power the Oakland Oaks to a 12-1, 12-2 doubleheader sweep of the Cumberland Orioles in Pen-Mar WV League baseball Sunday at Southern High.

The Oaks (4-0) built big early leads in both games. They scored eight times in the first inning of the opener, and led 6-2 after two innings of the second.

In the first game, Lenhart hit a two-run homer and a two-run single to lead a 10-hit attack. Ashby hit a solo home run and a single and had two RBIs, Michael Logsdon doubled twice and Reams had a double and two RBIs.

Lenhart scattered six hits and struck out five to get the win.

Chris Wilson had two singles and Austin Cook hit an RBI single for Cumberland (0-4).

In the second game, Jashanno Sweeting and Corey Helbig combined for six of Oakland’s 11 hits. Both went 3 for 3, with Sweeting getting a triple, two singles and two RBIs and Helbig collecting three singles and driving in three runs.

Reams hit a solo home run in the first inning and King belted a two-run shot in the second. Derek Taylor tossed a three-hitter with 10 strikeouts.

On Saturday, Oakland hosts Tri-State at Southern and Cumberland takes on the West Virginia Powerhouse at Berkeley Springs at 1 p.m.

POTOMAC PARK — Tristan Beyer singled home the go-ahead run in the first game, and Mike Hutchinson had three hits and two RBIs in the second as the Tri-State Titans swept the West Virginia Powerhouse at Hamilton Field.

In a first game pitchers’ duel, Jacob Foreman got the win with a four-hitter and 10 strikeouts. Jake Mann absorbed the loss despite allowing only two hits in five innings.

The Titans (4-0) had only three singles. Cody Ells-worth’s sacrifice fly in the fourth tied it 1-1, and Beyer’s RBI single in the fifth made it 2-1. Matt Wright singled and pinch-runner Chris Fram scored from first on a throwing error on a bunt by Foreman to make it 3-1.

Mike Swink doubled, singled and scored a run for West Virginia.

In the second game, Hutchinson finished with a double, two singles and two RBIs, Pat Livingston doubled and singled, Fram had two singles and two RBIs, Ellsworth two singles and Wright a single and two RBIs.

Ellsworth pitched all five innings, allowed two hits and struck out five.

Tri-State plays at Oakland and West Virginia hosts Cumberland on in 1 p.m. doubleheaders on Saturday.
