ACM, Dundalk split DH

Joe Glass fires 3-hitter in 5-1 opening win

— BALTIMORE — Joe Glass fired a complete-game three-hitter in leading Allegany College of Maryland to a 5-1 first game victory over Dundalk Community College Saturday afternoon.

A combination of errors prevented the Trojans from sweeping the Lions as Dundalk (19-15) scored three runs in the sixth to take the second game 4-3.

“It was a great road win for us,” said head coach Steve Bazarnic about the first game.

Glass improved to 4-1 after winning his fourth straight, striking out four with three walks while scattering three hits. Dundalk’s run was unearned.

Brandon Miller had a first-inning RBI double, Corey Shroyer had two hits including a double and Cody Malone had an RBI base hit.

ACM led 2-1 after two innings where it stayed until the Trojans scored three in the top of the sixth inning.

In the second game, the Trojans led 2-1 after the top of the sixth before the Lions scored three runs in the bottom half with no more than one hit, benefitting from two hit batsmen, a sacrifice fly, and two ACM errors.

The Trojans had one more hit than Dundalk, 5-4. Ethan Thoms tripled and scored the tying run in the fourth. Jeff Morgan had a sixth-inning RBI double and Eli Souders had a hit and an RBI.

Allegany (13-15, 4-8 Maryland JUCO) hosts Montgomery on Tuesday for a 2 p.m. doubleheader.

FROSTBURG — Frostburg State’s Doug Politz tossed a three-hit shutout in the first game but York pounded out 12 hits to win the second an split their Capital Athletic Conference doubleheader.

Politz struck out five of the first eight York batters and finished with nine strikeouts and only two walks.

Frostburg State (20-12, 7-8 CAC) got Politz all the runs he needed in a four-run second inning. Dylan Shupe doubled, Garrett Price singled and Shupe scored on a sacrifice fly by Jon Keeler. After a walk, J.K. Filauro belted a three-run homer to left to make it 4-0.

Kevin Kean led the FSU offense with a double and two singles. Filauro homered and singled, Shupe doubled twice and Price singled twice.

FSU took a 1-0 lead in the first inning but York scored the next eight runs.

Justin Cohen went 3 for 4 with a double, Drew Frankenfield doubled and singled, Colin Porter had two singles and three RBIs and Andrew Hershey hit a solo homer for York (16-15, 6-9).

Frostburg had 10 hits, all singles. Shupe had three hits and two RBIs. Kean also had two hits.

Frostburg will play in the opening round of the CAC Tournament on Tuesday. The opponent and site have yet to be determined.
