CUMBERLAND — Brandon Miller drove in four runs — two in each game — to help Allegany College of Maryland sweep the West Virginia Wesleyan junior varsity on Monday afternoon at The Rock.
The Trojans evened their record to 12-12 with the 10-7 and 2-0 victories.
In the 2-0 second game, Allegany was held to only three hits but Miller had two of them and accounted for both runs.
He gave the Trojans a 1-0 lead with his first-inning RBI double, scoring Jeff Morgan, and later, in the sixth inning, scored the second run after leading off with a double, moving to third on a sacrifice and scoring on Cody Doran’s RBI fielder’s choice.
In the 10-7 opening game victory, Miller had a two-run double, Doran drove in two runs off of two singles, and Drew O’Neal had two RBIs on two doubles.
Burt Penkey led Wesleyan with three hits, two doubles and two RBIs. Max Logsdon and Stan Machucca each had two hits.
Austin Barefoot and Ethan Thoms were the winning pitchers. Barefoot struck out four, scattering seven hits through five innings. Thoms struck out six while giving up four of Wesleyan’s seven hits with two walks. Drew O’Neal picked up the save.
Allegany (5-6 Maryland JUCO, 3-5 Division II) visits Frederick today for a 3 p.m. single game and will host Garrett in a makeup game on Wednesday also at 3 p.m.
