Tri-State, Oakland split doubleheader

Ellsworth, Stoner pick up wins

— OAKLAND — Pitching dominated both game between Tri-State and Oakland Sunday afternoon at Southern High School in Pen-MarWV League action.

Cody Ellsworth held the Oaks to only three hits in the 6-1 opening-game win for the Tri-State Titans and then Tobi Stoner, former pitcher for the New York Mets, held the Titans to only five hits in a 5-1 doubleheader split for Oakland in the second game.

In the opener, Ellsworth struck out 11 with only one walk. C.J. Eylel had an RBI double for Oakland.

Ellsworth and Bryce Nightengale both drove in two runs. Nightengale doubled and had two singles while Ellsworth drove in his runs with a base hit. Sean Collette had three hits and Brian Powell and Pat Livingston each had two.

Stoner struck out seven while scattering five hits in the second game and helped his own cause by hitting a two-run home run and he had a base hit for Oakland. Scott Cooper had two hits and Cam King doubled.

The Titans’ Collette had a fourth-inning solo home run, Ellsworth doubled and Nightengale had two singles.

The Tri-State Titans (16-2) play the Cumberland Orioles at Hamilton Field and Oakland (10-8) hosts Berkeley Springs with both doubleheaders starting at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
