Errors doom ACM

Chesapeake sweeps off of Trojans’ miscues

WYE MILLS — Allegany College of Maryland pitching surrendered four earned runs during a doubleheader with Chesapeake, but the Trojans committed 10 errors that led to 14 unearned runs as the Skipjacks swept the Maryland JUCO doubleheader on Thursday to finish off ACM’s regular season.

Chesapeake scored 11 unearned runs and scored 14 times in the first three innings to begin the afternoon with a 15-3 win. It then scored three unearned runs later in the day, getting the winning run when a hit batter forced in the runner at third, for a 3-2 victory.

The Trojans (21-24) play Garrett at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Dundalk in a Region XX play-in game. Allegany finishes the season 12-16 in the Maryland JUCO.

The Skipjacks started things off with four runs in their first at bats. They then scored twice in the second inning and eight more times in the third to open a 14-3 lead. Dan Allen drove in five runs on two hits and Cam Stewart scored three runs on two hits.

Allegany’s Cody Doran and Dylan Corl led the Trojans on the plate. Doran hit two singles and scored a run, while Corl hit a two-run triple.

Later in the afternoon, the Trojans got eight innings out of Allegany High School graduate Dave Rinehart, but allowed three more unearned runs to do them in. Rinehart didn't record a single strikeout, but allowed only four hits and kept the Jacks out of sync all afternoon.

Blake Muster hit a two-run double and scored the winning run on the hit bats men in the bottom of the eighth.

Doran had an RBI single for Allegany.
