Big first propels Alco

Huskies beat Rams 3-1

SHORT GAP, W.Va. — Third-ranked Allegany exploded out of the starting line to score five runs in the first inning and never looked back, handing Frankfort an 11-4 loss Friday afternoon in Appalachian Mountain Athletic Conference action.

The Campers (11-3, 8-3 AMAC) got a leadoff walk, and then used four straight hits to get rolling towards a five-run inning. Frankfort countered with three runs in the second, but Allegany pushed the lead to 6-3 in the third and tacked on four more runs in the fourth on the back of a Colton Sivic home run.

Sivic had a total of four runs batted in on the home run and two doubles, and Chris Fram had two RBIs on a double and a single. Bryce Nightengale hit two singles, and Carter Imes hit a triple.

The Falcons (12-11, 7-3) received three singles from Colton Dorsey and two from Tyler Conley. Thane Cutter contributed with a double.

The two teams will play again today, at Allegany, at 10 a.m.

Mtn. Ridge    12

Bishop Walsh    7

FROSTBURG — Josh Van Meter had three hits and Branden Markwood belted a two-run triple in a five-run first inning to power fifth-ranked Mountain Ridge to a 12-7 win over Bishop Walsh on Friday.

Van Meter finished 3 for 4 with three singles and three RBIs to lead a 12-hit attack. Mike Strietbeck ripped a double and single and knocked in two runs for the Miners, 6-1 in their last seven games.

Zach Ruppenkamp hit two singles and drove in two runs for Bishop Walsh.

The was resumed in the third inning after being suspended by storms on Wednesday.

Mountain Ridge (10-5, 8-3 AMAC) plays at Northern on Monday at 3:30. Bishop Walsh (0-9, 0-7) plays at North Star today.

Northern 3, Southern 1

OAKLAND — Aaron Broadwater hit a two-run double and a single, and Jerad Fike took a no-hitter into the sixth inning as Northern edged Southern for a sweep of the season series.

Fike was four outs from a no-hitter when Seth Holler singled with two outs in the bottom of the sixth. Fike struck out three and walked only one in a complete-game win.

Broadwater gave Northern (8-7, 6-5 AMAC) a 2-0 lead with a two-run double in the third inning. Seth Mast and Aaron Rodeheaver smacked three singles and Brooks Carr doubled for the Huskies, who had nine hits.

Keith Chapman drove in Southern’s run with a pinch-hit single in the seventh. Scott Cooper absorbed the loss, scattering nine hits and striking out six.

Northern plays at Keyser today at noon. Southern (2-12, 2-8) will host Tucker County on Monday.

Fort Hill  2, Keyser1

KEYSER, W.Va. — K’Shaun Powell’s two-run single in the top of the second is all Fort Hill would need in a 2-1 win at Keyser Friday.

Sidney Carroll went the distance for the Sentinels, allowing three hits, while Dalton Gaus and Michael Wright each singled twice.

Aaron Rogers allowed two runs on seven hits in a complete game loss.

Vinnie Cuthbertson doubled and singled for the Golden Tornado. Josh Bane drove in Keyser’s run on a ground-out.

Fort Hill (5-4) hosts Allegany Monday at 4:30 p.m. Keyser (0-17) hosts Northern today at noon.

Rockwood 8, Hyndman 7

ROCKWOOD, Pa. — Kyle Pritts 3-run home run in the bottom of the first propelled Rockwood to an 8-7 defeat of Hyndman at Rockwood Friday.

Zach Shaulis drove in three on three hits. Ethan Keefer and Grant Pletcher added two hits, with Pletcher driving in four runs for Rockwood.

Chad Deneen recorded three hits, including two triples. Jack Leydig doubled twice and drove in two, and MJ Messenger also drove in two. Brad Torbet raked a double in the loss.

Hyndman (5-4) hosts Meyersdale Monday at 4:30 p.m.
