Falcons fly by Rams

— SHORT GAP, W.Va. — Braiden Popluhar had two hits, two RBIs and two runs scored and Garrett Shoemaker homered during a four-run first inning as Frankfort remained undefeated with an 11-3 victory over Southern in high school baseball on Wednesday.

Southern (2-3) took a quick 2-0 lead on a two-run homer by Seth Holler in the top of the first. But Frankfort (4-0) outscored the Rams 11-1 the rest of the way, the majority of the runs coming in the first two innings.

Popluhar hit an RBI triple, Gavin Mauzy an RBI single and Shoemaker the two-run homer in the four-run Frankfort first. Popluhar had an RBI single and Gage Shaffer an RBI double in a five-run second that put Frankfort on top 9-2.

Cole Smith added a two-run double in the third.

Ross Conley and Jack Doepker combined to scatter seven hits and strike out five. Doepker got the win in relief, allowing two hits and one run over four innings.

Holler hit a home run and single while Corey Horner had two singles and scored twice for Southern, which visits Mountain Ridge on Friday.

Frankfort will host Moorefield in a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday.

ROMNEY, W.Va. — Alex See smacked a double and two singles and knocked in two runs to help power Petersburg past Hampshire.

Trent Borror added two singles and three RBIs and Trevor Harman had an RBI single for the Vikings (3-0), who snapped a 5-5 tie with a pair of runs in the sixth inning. Petersburg outhit Hampshire 9-6 and was aided by four Hampshire errors.

See, who relieved starter Ryan Colaw in the third, got the win.

Dane Heavener ripped an RBI double, Cody Kesner had a two-run single and Shane Ennis had a single and an RBI for Hampshire (3-2), which plays at Elkins on Friday at 7 p.m. The jayvee game is at 4:30.

Petersburg play at Keyser today.
