McHENRY — Grantsville Post 214 and Romney concluded their American Legion seasons with a doubleheader split Sunday at Garrett College, Grantsville winning the first game in nine innings, 4-3, and Romney taking the second, 11-4.
In the opener, Romney scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning to tie it at 3-3 and force extra innings. In the bottom of the ninth, Corey Helbig and Cody Humbertson started things off for Grantsville with back-to-back singles, putting men on first and second, setting up the game-winner, a shot to the gap by Cody Rodeheaver to score Helbig with the winning run.
Rodeheaver also had an RBI single in the Grantsville fifth, as well as a single in the first. Helbig had a pair of singles and an RBI, while Josh Bittinger had an RBI single.
Humbertson singled three times, Patrick Sines singled and doubled and Logan Stewart had two singles as Grantsville totaled 15 hits on the day.
Evan Rodeheaver worked all nine innings to gain the win for Grantsville, giving up six hits, two earned runs and five walks, while striking four.
Shane Ennis and Trevor Largent both had two singles for Romney, with Ennis knocking in two runs.
Even though both teams had at least 10 hits in the second game, on the scoreboard it was all Romney, as Josh Moreland doubled and singled twice to knock in three runs and Bucky Timbrook doubled and singled to knock in one. Shane Brooks had an RBI double and Matt Maiers had two singles.
For Grantsville, which finished the season 11-18, Helbig had a double, two singles and two RBI, Humbertson three singles and Cody Rodeheaver two singles.
