POTOMAC PARK — Bryce Nightengale tossed a one-hitter and Charlie Twigg had a pair of run-producing hits to lead Riverside Sports to a 4-3 win over the Cumberland Optimist in the opening game of their Hot Stove League playoff series Monday at Holler Field.
Nightengale allowed only a sixth-inning single to Derek Flanagan in collecting the victory. He struck out 12 and walked six along the way.
Nightengale helped his own cause and snapped a 2-2 tie with an RBI single in the fifth inning. Charlie Twigg singled home an insurance run later in the inning to make it 4-2.
Twigg led a 10-hit Riverside attack with a double, two singles and two RBIs.
Riverside (15-5-1) and the Optimist (12-10) resume their series on Wednesday at Hamilton Field.

POTOMAC PARK — Braiden Popluhar pitched a complete-game three-hit shutout, striking out eight and walking just one, to lead the Fort Ashby Lions to a 7-0 win over the Cresaptown Eagles in the opening game of their Hot Stove League quarterfinal playoff series Monday evening at Hamilton Field.
All three Eagles hits were singles as both teams played outstanding defense in a game that lasted approximately 90 minutes. The Lions scored a single run in the first inning, four in the second and two in the fourth.
Cole Smith had three singles, scored a run and knocked in three runs for the Lions, while Hunter Jenkins had two singles, two runs scored and a run batted in. Popluhar had two singles and an RBI while Tucker Aldridge had two singles and Carter Haudershedt an RBI single.
Game two of the series will be Wednesday, 5:30, at Holler Field.
