— HAGERSTOWN — Allegany College of Maryland made a late push to get back into contention, but couldn’t sustain the surge long enough and suffered a 104-87 loss to Monroe (N.Y.) College Saturday in the Jim Brown Classic at Hagerstown Community College.

The Trojans (0-5) trailed 55-33 at the half but were able to fight their way to within six points with five minutes left. The Mustangs were able to stop the bleeding and pulled away again for the 17-point win.

Monroe put five players in double-figure scoring with Nehemias Morillo tying for a game-high with 20 points. Thomas Rivera and Devin Martin added 14 points apiece.

The Trojans were led by Garrett D’Atri’s 20 points. The former Fort Hill High standout also had a team-high eight assists, while Davon Williams had a double-double of 19 points and 10 rebounds. Tyson Reynold gave the Trojans another 16 points and Mark Robinson finished with 10. All of Reynold’s points came in the second half.

“We played with a lot of heart,” said ACM head coach Tommie Reams. “We proved something to ourselves today. We dug a hole and never gave up in trying to dig out. There was not quit in them today. We played bad at times and outplayed them at others. It’s just a matter of putting it all together.”

Allegany will return to Hagerstown today to face Monroe (N.Y.) Community College , at 3 o’clock, in the second day of the classic.
