Garrett women win fourth in row

ACCIDENT — Shameena Johnson scored 20 points and Janice Bartley had 17 as Garrett College pulled out a 55-52 win over Baltimore City in Maryland JUCO college women’s basketball on Saturday.

Johnson hit 10 field goals and just missed a double-double, finishing with nine rebounds. Terra McKenzie added finished with 11 points and eight rebounds.

The teams were never more than a few points apart, with the Lakers holding the lead most of the time. They led 29-28 at halftime.

Iman Scott had 18 points and Tashay Smith 17 for Baltiore City..

Garrett (8-4) will put a four-game winning streak on the line Tuesday at Montgomery-Rockville.

KEYSER, W.Va. — Jenna McAtee scored 24 points to lead Potomac State in a 98-27 clobbering of Butler (Pa.).

Potomac State, which led 45-15 at halftime, held an opponent under 30 points for the second straight game.

The Catamounts (3-12) led 45-15 at halftime and outscored Butler 53-12 in the second half.

Alexis Steele had 14 points and seven steals, Lindsey Miller 14 points, Kirsten Ward 11 and Morgan Wright 10.

Frostburg State    46

ARLINGTON, Va. — Katelyn Fischer had 23 points, five assists and five steals to help carry Marymount to a Capital Athletic Conference win over Frostburg State.

Fischer, the conference’s scoring leader, hit eight field goals and 5 of 6 free throws to lead all scorers. Tynisha Parks added 11 points and Dominque Dickens had 10 points and 10 rebounds for the Saints (14-4, 4-1), who led 34-18 at halftime.

Marymount scored 28 points off 22 FSU turnovers.

Elaina Hummel led Frostburg (5-11, 1-5) with 16 points.

The Bobcats play at Bridgewater tonight.

Allegany    69

FREDERICK — Kia Whitley was uncontainable, scoring 34 points for Frederick in a lopsided victory over Allegany.

The Trojans were ineffective on defense, especially in the first half when the Cougars put up 58 points.

Allegany cut the lead to 11 in the second half but couldn’t make enough stops to come all the way back.

Derica Souder and Madi Nightengale scored 18 points for the Trojans (2-14, 1-7 Maryland JUCO).

Jordan Stanhope added 17 for Frederick (13-7, 7-3).

Allegany plays at Howard on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
