Miners turn back Huskies

— ACCIDENT — Colten Winner scored 12 points and Steven Glasbrenner added 10 to lead fifth-ranked Mountain Ridge over Northern, 58-42, Wednesday night in boys high school AMACā€ˆbasketball action.

Winner hit four field goals and was 4 for 4 from the free-throw line to lead the Miners, while Glassbrenner hit four field goals, one going for a three-pointer.

The Miners (10-10 overall, 8-6 AMAC) took a 13-10 lead at after one quarter, extended it to 30-19 at the half, and led 42-32 entering the fourth.

Northern (2-17, 0-13) was led by Matt Tice with 11 points.

The teams will meet again Friday at Mountain Ridge.

Mountain Ridge won the junior varsity game, 54-47. Dylan Shimko had 14 points and Michael Livingston 10 for the Miners. Northern was led by Cody Geigert with 15 points and Kyle Klotz with 14.

ROMNEY, W.Va. — Travis Clower had a double-double with 22 points and 10 assists and also had five rebounds as fourth-ranked Hampshire won its fifth straight game.

Tied 18-all after one quarter, Hampshire (11-8) outscored Jefferson (3-14) 20-10 in the second quarter for a 38-28 halftime lead. It was 57-38 after three quarters.

Dane Heavener added 14 points and Logan Hill had 12 points and nine rebounds for the Trojans, who visit Petersburg tonight.

Josh Dudley scored 18 points for Jefferson (3-14).
