Sell, Landis lead Allegany over Central

Campers snap losing streak, 45-28

CUMBERLAND — Kristin Sell and Courtney Landis combined to score 23 points as Allegany ended a four-game losing streak by defeating Central (Pa.) 45-28 Thursday night at Campobello.

The fifth-ranked Campers scored 14 points in the second quarter while holding Central to six to break a 9-9 tie after the first quarter and take a 23-15 lead into halftime.

Allegany continued the defensive pressure in the second half, taking a 33-21 cushion into the final eight minutes.

Sell led with a game-high 13 points with four baskets, including one three, and going 4 of 5 from the foul line. Landis had two threes out of her three baskets and made 2 of 8 free throws to finish with 10 points. Rachel Wormack came one point shy of recording a double-double. She made four buckets and a free throw for nine points while pulling down 10 rebounds. She also had three steals. Landis had five steals and three assists and Sell had three steals.

Marissa Snyder finished with nine points — including two three-pointers — to lead Central.

Allegany (8-7 overall, 4-6 Appalachian Mountain Athletic Conference) hosts Frankfort Saturday afternoon beginning at 2:30 p.m. The junior varsity game will tip at 1 p.m.

SALISBURY, Pa. — Katie Ryan scored 23 points and Sadie Riskas added 20 more to help Turkeyfoot pull away from Salisbury.

Ryan scored 15 points and Riskas had 14 in the second half as the Rams led by just 26-24 at halftime. It was 46-40 after three quarters. Nine of Ryan’s points came in the fourth.

Salisbury’s Kylee Short led all scorers with 25 points, making seven field goals and 10 of 12 free throws. Emily Lowery had 12 points and Kaylyn McKenzie 10.

The Elks play at Portage on Monday.
