— CUMBERLAND — Bishop Walsh Principal Shelby Webb announced Monday that head boys basketball coach Bob Boyle has resigned effective immediately.

Current assistants Michael Fields and Michael Allen will serve as interim head coaches for the remainder of the season. The Spartans, 1-3, host Northern tonight at 7:30 p.m.

Boyle cited a work commitment made prior to the season as the reason for his decision.

“We are grateful for the three plus years Bob has dedicated to our boys and our school,” sais Webb. “The ACIT victory in 2012 was a highlight, along with last year’s AMAC and area titles. Bob’s willingness to help both the boys and girls programs at Bishop Walsh has been outstanding.”

Boyle’s record as the boys head coach is 57-33.
