— PETERSBURG – Brian George scored 14 of his game-high 25 points in the second half as third-ranked Petersburg defeated visiting Keyser 75-66 in a Saturday night make-up contest of Class AA regional rivals.

Ryan VanMeter scored 18 points and made four of Petersburg’s 10 three-point goals as the Vikings (12-2) extended their winning streak to 10 games. Kelson Thorne added 10 points and Grant Shanholtz scored nine points and picked four steals.

Keyser was led in scoring by Malik Harper with 19 points and Ryan Streets with 15.

The Vikings and Golden Tornado started the game in typical fashion as both played tightly and traded baskets throughout the first half. Petersburg held a slim 12-11 lead at the end of the first quarter. Both teams heated up in the second quarter and the game was tied at 31 going to the half.

The pace continued into the third quarter and the game was tied at 49 when Michael Cuthbertson hit a long three-pointer at the buzzer as Keyser took a 52-49 lead into the final quarter. Keyser extended the lead to as many as four points early in the fourth quarter, but the Petersburg defense forced a few key turnovers and the Vikings capitalized on the offensive end to regain the lead for good.

Petersburg travels to East Hardy on Wednesday while Keyser (6-8) travels to Bishop Walsh on Monday.
