CUMBERLAND — Chad Canady hit five consecutive three-point goals midway through the first half to break open a tight game and carry Northern Virginia to a 75-59 victory over Allegany College in junior college men’s basketball Sunday afternoon at Bob Kirk Arena.
Northern Virginia led 35-33 at halftime and was clinging to a slim lead at about the 10-minute mark when Canady took over. He made three-point shots on five straight possessions, four being well defended and one a fall away, 24-footer over Garrett D’Atri, Allegany coach Tommie Reams said.
Canady finished with 27 points and had seven of Northern Virginia’s nine three-point goals. Khalil Jabbie had 14 points and Mortimer Berchey 13.
D’Atri led Allegany (5-21) with 15 points and Tyson Reynold had another double-double with 14 points an 14 rebounds. Alonzo Molina added 12 points, Davon Williams had nine and Adam Wells chipped in with five points, five assists and four rebounds.
It was the final home game of the season for the Trojans, who will be on the road on Tuesday for a Maryland JUCO Tournament play-in game. The opponent has yet to be determined.
