Mountain Ridge rolls; BW remains undefeated

FROSTBURG  — Josh Delaney and Steven Glasbrenner scored in double figures as Mountain Ridge evened its record with a 65-45 win over Frankfort in Appalachian Mountain Athletic Conference basketball Tuesday night.

Delaney made seven field goals to lead Mountain Ridge with 14 points, while Glasbrenner made three field goals, with two three-pointers, and went 3 of 4 from the foul line for 11 points.

Mountain Ridge took a 19-7 lead into the second quarter and led 33-17 at halftime. It was 47-25 at the end of three quarters.

Gage Shaffer led Frankfort with 16 points.

Lucas Lowry scored 13 points and Dylan Shimko 10 as Mountain Ridge won the junior varsity game 51-36. Tanner Oaks had 13 for the Falcons.

The Miners also won the freshmen game, 49-35. Justin Halbritter scored 22 points for Mountain Ridge and Jake Young had 25 for Frankfort.

Mountain Ridge (2-2, 2-0 AMAC) hosts Keyser on Tuesday. Frankfort (1-2, 1-2) goes home to play Berkeley Springs on Thursday.

Bishop Walsh    80

Northern    40

CUMBERLAND  — Liam Rhodes scored 27 points as Bishop Walsh overpowered Northern and remained undefeated.

Quincy Redmon added 13 points, Brandon Reed 11 and Hunter Marrale 10 for the Spartans (7-0 overall, 2-0 AMAC). Redmon also had eight rebounds.

The Spartans flew out of the gates with a 25-point first quarter and led 37-16 at the half. It was 59-29 entering the fourth quarter.

The Huskies’ leading scorer was Tyler Yutzy with nine points.

BW won the jayvee game 45-17 with Isaiah Fraser and Raquan Weedon getting 10 points each. C. Deigert had seven for Northern.

Bishop Walsh visits Keyser on Thursday. Northern (0-3, 0-3) plays at Hyndman on Thursday.

Broadfording    75

Calvary    59

HAGERSTOWN — Calvary Christian tried to get back into the game through the second half, but Broadfording had built too big of a lead to allow the comeback as the Eagles dropped a MDCC at Broadfording.

Mo Sallah scored 24 points for Broadfording as it led 24-11 after a quarter and 49-25 at the half. Lonnie Anderson scored 12 points, while Jeff Lopez scored 11.

Calvary was led by Tyler Michael with 22 points. Gavin Hart scored 18 points on the strength of five three-pointers. The Eagles began to make a move midway through the third quarter, but could only get the lead down to the final margin of 16 points.

Calvary (2-2, 1-2) will host Grace on Friday.

In the junior varsity game, Broadfording won, 49-27. Caleb Snyder had 12 for Calvary, while Nick Phillips had seven and Dalton Lowery six.

Petersburg    45

East Hardy    42

BAKER, W.Va. — Brian George had 21 points and 13 rebounds to lead Petersburg to an overtime win over East Hardy on Monday.

The Vikings held a slight edge throughout the first two quarters and led 18-15 at the half. Petersburg stretched out to a seven-point lead by the end of the third, but the Cougars fought their way back to tie the game at 40 at the end of regulation.

George was 15 for 23 from the foul line in a game that featured a combined 55 free-throw attempts. Marshall Wratchford added six points and nine rebounds for Petersburg (1-2).

Shawn Shovran led East Hardy (0-1) with 18 points.

Petersburg hosts Tucker County on Tuesday.

 Petersburg won the junior varsity game 46-31. Brandon Seabolt scored 12 points, Jace Shanholtz 11, Jacob Fawley 10, and Ryan VanMeter nine.
