Weller leads Hancock girls over Paw Paw

— HANCOCK — Paige Weller made 10 field goals and went  4 of 8 from the foul line to lead Hancock to a 52-36 win over Paw Paw on Wednesday in the only girls basketball game scheduled for the area.

Weller was supported by Jenna Mitchell and Shelby Brown with nine points each.

The first three quarters consisted of back-and-forth swings before the Panthers took over in the fourth. Hancock led 14-10 after one quarter, but Paw Paw charged ahead to lead 24-21 at halftime. Hancock retook a 34-30 lead at the end of three and stretched the spread to 16 points by the end of the night.

Brandi Kidwell scored nine points and Belle Harrold added eight for the Pirates.

Paw Paw (4-14) and the Panthers play each other again on Friday, this time at Paw Paw.

Union 54, Hundred 36

MOUNT STORM, W.Va. — Colleena Burdock scored 25 points and also had 12 steals, six rebounds and five assists to power Union past Hundred on Monday.

Angel Mann added 10 points, Megan Putlovis had seven and 13 rebounds and Harley-Ann Miller seven points and six steals.

Wednesday night’s game against Pendleton was canceled.

Union (9-8) begins sectional play on Saturday. The Tigers will be the No. 4 seed in the Class A, Region 2, Section 1 tournament and will host No. 5 South Harrison at 6 p.m. The winner will take on top seed Tucker County Wednesday at Elkins at 5:45.
