Faith holds off Calvary

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — Calvary Christian allowed just six second-half points but the Eagles were unable to capitalize on the offensive end and fell to Faith 31-24 in Mason-Dixon Christian Conference action Tuesday night.

Faith (10-5, 6-3 MDCC) jumped out to a 13-5 lead after one quarter and was ahead 25-14 at the half. Calvary (9-5, 3-4) put the clamps on the Faith offense in the second, but the Eagles struggled through a difficult shooting night and managed only 10 points themselves over the final two quarters.

“We played incredible defense, especially in the second half, against a team that has two girls over 6-feet tall,’’ said Calvary coach Rusty Kitzmiller. “We double-teamed them and scrapped and got back into it with an 8-0 run to get back into it.

“Unfortunately, we just didn’t have a good night on offense.”

Payton Emerick had eight points and seven rebounds for Calvary, which could have gotten closer if not for seven missed foul shots in the third quarter. Karly Hipsley added six points, six rebounds and four steals and Brook Riker had four points and nine rebounds

Caroline Castle had 10 points and Madelyn Samsell eight for Faith.

The Eagles will look to rebound Thursday night at Fulton County (Pa.) Christian.
