Hershberger sparks Potomac State to victory

LaPLATA — Leah Hershberger scored 20 points and hit three three-point goals to lead Potomac State to a 71-65 win over the College of Southern Maryland Wednesday night at Southern Maryland.

Hershberger hit five field goals on the night and went 7-for-8 from the free-throw line in a game that saw Potomac State hit 25 of 35 for the evening, and Southern Maryland going 29-for-42. Several players from both teams fouled out.

Antwanye Parks scored 13 points and had eight rebounds for the Lady Catamounts, while Hannah Horne scored 11. Horne and Hershberger both had three steals.

Potomac State led at the half, 33-30, before outscoring Southern Maryland, 38-35 in the second half.

Potomac State (2-1) will host Penn State DuBois on Friday.

Garrett 83, Westmoreland 58

YOUNGWOOD, Pa. — The Garrett College women’s basketball team defeated Westmoreland Wednesday night, 83-58, at Westmoreland to win its second straight game.

Garrett (2-1) was up by 17 at half, 47-30, and didn’t let up in the second half with top scorer Ayana Vaughn leading the way with 24 points.

Vaughn was 11-for-13 from the line with Amber Smith right behind with 18 points and nine rebounds for the Lady Lakers. Kristyn Wilson and Anamaria Skaro helped out as well, as Wilson had 17 points and 10 assists and Skaro had a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.

The Lady Lakers will try to exted their winning streak Friday at Parkersburg.
