  • Ridge pulls away from Northern, 70-52
    Second-ranked Mountain Ridge beat Northern from the free-throw line Friday evening, making 15 more foul shots in a 70-52 win over the host Huskies that moves the Miners to 9-1 in the Appalachian Mountain Athletic Conference.

  • BW trio heads All-City team
    Scoring champion Kamran Khataian, Myles Clifford and Spencer Wine, who led Bishop Walsh to its first City League title in more than a decade, head this year’s All-City boys basketball team.

  • Alco, Ridge win, stay tied
    Casey Roberts scored a game-high 31 points to lead five Allegany players in double figures as the Campers outlasted Keyser 97-74 Thursday night at Campobello.

  • Alco captures City title with 3-run 7th
    Brandon Folk singled home the go-ahead run and John Carpenter knocked in two more during a three-run seventh that lifted fourth-ranked Allegany to a 10-7 win over Bishop Walsh for the Cumberland City League championship Tuesday evening at Al Martin Field.

  • Allegany voted area champion
    The Allegany Campers, who peaked at the right time and rode a wave of momentum all the way to the Maryland state tournament, were voted Cumberland Times-News Area high school boys basketball champions.
    It was the sixth area title for Allegany, and fourth under head coach Tedd Eirich. Only Rick Harris, with seven, has coached more teams to area titles in boys basketball.

  • Old Line State sweep
    The Maryland girls defeated West Virginia’s 64-57 in overtime while the Maryland boys held off West Virginia 94-91 in the 29th annual Lion’s All-Star Basketball Classic held at Frostburg State Arena Sunday afternoon.

  • Gillum’s homer sends Northern over Southern
    Kyle Gillum belted a three-run homer and Brandon Beachy had a pair of hits and three runs batted in as No. 1 Northern rolled past No. 2 Southern, 11-1, in high school baseball Saturday afternoon.

  • Mountain Ridge edges Frankfort
    Offense was in control early but pitching took over in the late innings as Mountain Ridge knocked off Frankfort 5-3 in an early season Appalachian Mountain Athletic Conference baseball game Wednesday at Frankfort.
    The Miners (2-0 overall, 2-0 AMAC) scored a run in the first and two more in the third before getting their final two runs in the top of the third. Frankfort scored all three of its runs in the third.

  • Hobel wins shootout at McDonald’s Classic
    Three area basketball players and one coach participated in the McDonald’s Roundball Classic at Hagerstown Community College this past weekend.
