Ridge pulls away from Northern, 70-52

Allegany stops Southern; FH loses

ACCIDENT — Second-ranked Mountain Ridge beat Northern from the free-throw line Friday evening, making 15 more foul shots in a 70-52 win over the host Huskies that moves the Miners to 9-1 in the Appalachian Mountain Athletic Conference.

David Hobel scorched the Huskies for 22 points, getting 12 from the foul line, and Cody Morton finished with 10. Cody Hovatter contributed nine points and Keinan Harper scored eight.

The Miners built a seven-point lead in the first quarter, and continued to slowly build on to that. The score grew from 15-8 in the first quarter to 31-22 in the second. By the end of the third quarter Mountain Ridge had pushed the score to 47-34.

Ed Herpel had 15 points and four assists for Northern (5-12, 2-8 AMAC). Thomas Holtschneider added nine points and also had four assists.

Mountain Ridge won the junior varsity game.

The Miners (15-3) have only one non-conference game remaining among its final four contests. They host Hampshire on Monday. Northern will stay in the AMAC when it hosts Keyser on Tuesday.



No. 3 Allegany 57, Southern 33

CUMBERLAND — In a deliberately-paced game, the third-ranked Allegany Campers were able to take care of business early and were never threatened in a 24-point win over Southern Friday in an Appalachian Mountain Athletic Conference game at Allegany.

The Campers were led by Casey Roberts, who scored 24 points on 10 field goals, including a pair of three-pointers and two free throws. Roberts also had six steals and five rebounds. Jordan Grady had another solid game as well, scoring 13 points, collecting seven rebounds, handing out four assists and coming up with four steals. Cody Ellsworth scored nine points and had five assists to lead the Campers in that department.

Southern was led by Dan Shockey with 11 points and Chris Schad had eight.

Allegany led, 14-6, after the first period, but opened it to 30-10 at the half with a 16-6 second quarter. The Campers led 45-21 after three.

Allegany (13-2 overall, 9-1 AMAC) will play Tuesday at Bishop Walsh, with the winner coming away with the City championship. Southern (4-12, 2-8) will play at Mountain Ridge on Tuesday.

In Friday’s junior varsity game, Allegany defeated Southern, 66-40. The Campers were led by Jake Shade with 17 points, Brady Ellsworth with 13, and Trevon Emerson and Drew O’Neal with 10 apiece. Joe Kisselovich scored 19 for Southern.



No. 4 Hampshire 52, Fort Hill 47

CUMBERLAND — Hampshire hit nine three-point goals, Robbie Miller scored 17 points and Will Hughes hit for 16 to lead the fourth-ranked Trojans over the Fort Hill Sentinels Friday at Fort Hill in an Appalachian Mountain Athletic Conference Game.

Miller hit five field goals on the night, all of them three-pointers, and went 2-for-2 from the free-throw line. Hughes hit six field goals and went 4-for-9 from the line, hitting no three-pointers, but leading the Trojans with eight rebounds. Philip Malick scored nine points, with all three of his field goals being three-pointers. J.P. Binotto had seven assists for the Trojans.

For Fort Hill, Devin Lee scored 17 points and Lateryl White scored 11 and had four assists. Jordan Helmick led the Sentinels with seven rebounds.

It was a tight game throughout, with Hampshire leading 13-10 after one, 27-23 at the half, and 38-35 entering the fourth, in which the Trojans outscored the Sentinels, 14-12.

Hampshire hit just 11 out of 23 free-throw attempts, compared to Fort Hill’s 4-for-5. Fort Hill had 20 field goals to Hampshire’s 16, but nine of those field goals for the Trojans were three-pointers.

Hampshire (7-6 overall, 5-2 AMAC) will visit Mountain Ridge on Monday. Fort Hill (4-12, 3-8) is at Williamsport on Monday.

In the junior varsity game, Hampshire beat Fort Hill, 65-35, as Jordan Nelson scored 20 points. Will Harris scored 10 for Fort Hill.



East Hardy 68, Paw Paw 56

PAW PAW, W.Va. — Justin Mathias scored 24 points to lead East Hardy over Paw Paw Friday night at Paw Paw.

Three other East Hardy players scored in double figures, with Kolby Foltz scoring 17, Derrick Orndorff 13 and Devon Orndorff 10.

For Paw Paw, Dustin Paul had 18 points and 12 rebounds, Chris Kendall 12 points and 11 rebounds, and Nick Corbett 10 points with John Harrold scoring nine.

East Hardy led 18-16 after the first quarter, and then broke open the game with a 24-11 second quarter to lead 42-27 at the half. The Cougars led 53-46 after three, however, before putting the game away with a 15-10 fourth quarter.

East Hardy (7-5) will visit Union tonight. Paw Paw (4-7) plays at East Hardy Monday.

East Hardy won the junior varsity game.



Tygarts Valley 59, Union 53

MILL CREEK, W.Va. — Union came up on the short side of back-and-forth battle with Tygarts Valley, losing a tough road game Friday.

The Tigers got out to an 18-8 lead in the first, and still led 30-26 at halftime. The Bulldogs came back in the fourth to take a 47-39 lead before Union got the lead down to two points with a minute to go in the fourth.

Jeff Savage led the Tigers by scoring 18 points and Matt McCrobie added 11. Savage had six assists and Homer Kuhn led the team with 10 rebounds. Rodney Buckholtz scored 16 points to go with six rebounds and three assists.

Union (4-9, 2-5 Potomac Valley Conference) will host East Hardy on Tuesday.



Shalom 48, Calvary 41

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. — Shalom had a 13-point edge on Calvary from the foul line which was the difference maker in a seven-point victory over the Eagles.

Matt Horner led Shalom with 17 points and Ben Forsythe finished with 12. Tyler Strite got all of his seven points from the foul line, and was 5-for-6 in the final two minutes to prevent Calvary from catching up.

The Eagles were paced by Dustin Snow’s 12 points. Brandon Inglish added eight points.

Calvary (4-13, 2-8 Mason Dixon Conference) will play another conference opponent when it plays at Heritage on Tuesday.
