MCHENRY — Bill Meagher of Lakeside Creamery is the new representative of the Garrett County Chamber of Commerce to the Maryland State Chamber board of directors.
Meagher is a previous chairman of the Garrett County Chamber of Commerce board of directors.
He was active in the last gubernatorial campaign, encouraging people to vote, and studying legislation during the past legislative session.
He has been active in the community, serving for several years on the Garrett County Board of Education’s calendar committee and advisory committee on education. He will continue to advocate increasing tourism as a way to increase revenue without increasing taxes.
Jerry Geisler, WISP vice president of facilities and public affairs at Deep Creek Mountain Resort, represented Garrett County for several years, keeping Garrett business leaders aware of what legislation was being considered that could affect the business community, how legislation was progressing and the board’s position and action on different legislation.
“We are very fortunate to have Bill represent our chamber at the state level,” said Jimmy Flanigan, chairman of the chamber board of directors. “His experience, integrity, and continued active involvement, will benefit all of Garrett County. Although we will surely miss Jerry, I feel Bill is the perfect choice to represent us in Annapolis.”
Meagher met with three lobbyists recently and said it seems certain fees and taxes will probably be increased.
“The state board wants to see that the effects on business members of these increases will be minimized,” Meagher said. “The state board is looking forward to additional Western Maryland input.”
