Southern States has good news to report

Cumberland Cooperative holding annual meeting Sept. 4

For the Cumberland Times-News

CUMBERLAND — Southern States Cooperative will review its operations at a series of local annual meetings, including the upcoming meeting for members of Southern States Cumberland Cooperative Inc.

“The news is good,” said President and CEO Thomas R. Scribner. “The cooperative had a great year in 2007 with earnings exceeding plan by the largest margin in a decade and the outlook for 2008 is even better.” Sales in fiscal year 2008 exceeded $2 billion for the first time.

Southern States Cumberland Cooperative will hold its annual membership meeting on Sept. 4 at the Flintstone Volunteer Fire Department, Flintstone Lane, Flintstone, beginning at 7:30 p.m.

With the theme “You Ain’t Seen Nothin’ Yet,” the cooperative’s management will use the meeting to report on both local and company-wide operations, as well as projected budget results for next year. Local board members and Farm Home Advisory Committee (FHAC) members will be elected, and retiring FHAC and board members will be recognized.

Board nominees include Donny Alt, Mark Heavner, Edward T. Robinette and Doug Workman.

The appointment procedure will be used for FHAC nominees.

“The annual meeting is the best single opportunity to outline our plans for the future to our membership and discuss our progress in meeting our financial goals.,” said Neal Cessna, manager of Southern States Cumberland Cooperative Inc.
