Deep Creek Lake property owners group has new president
Johnson passes association gavel to Lou Battistella

MCHENRY — After serving as president for the past four years of the Property Owners’ Association of Deep Creek Lake Inc., Scott Johnson of Swanton passed the gavel of the association to long-time Deep Creek Lake-affiliated Lou Battistella of Swanton and Greensburg, Pa.
Deciding to step down to spend some time with his family and grandchildren, Coldwell Banker Deep Creek Realty’s Johnson will remain as a board member of the association, which has 1,000 members that live both full-time and part-time at the lake.
Battistella began vacationing with his family in the early 1950s and brought his wife Sue, and children Elysia and Brandon to Garrett County in 1997. Battistella is president and third generation to his family’s founded company, Adam Eidemiller Inc., a commercial and residential developer in Greensburg. Battistella has been on the board of the POA for seven years and has served as secretary for the past five years.
The Property Owners’ Association of Deep Creek Lake, Inc. was first founded in 1936 and is almost as old as Deep Creek Lake itself (1925).
At the general membership meeting held on Aug. 22, other board members were re-elected, including Senior Vice President Roger Titus; Vice President-Planning Katheryn Gemberling; Vice President-Membership Marge Mahood; Treasurer Tom Myers; and replacing Battistella as secretary is Krista McGowan. Gary Shafer was appointed to the board to replace Dale Copeland who stepped down from the board. Others on the 18-member board are Susan Crawford, Troy Ellington, Scott Johnson, Smiley Kessler, Ed King, Shelley Missimer, Jeff Nelson, Chris Nichols, Nancy Railey, Robert Suttonand Barry Weinberg.
The POA is active in the community with POA board representatives who serve as board members on the Deep Creek Lake Policy and Review Board, the Emergency Services Board, the Garrett County Planning Commission, the Local Emergency Planning Committee and an advisory board member to the Garrett County Chamber of Commerce.
