I am writing this letter in response to the recent decision to close the Adult Day Care Center sponsored by the Western Maryland Health System. This is a tragedy for our community and the fragile sector of our society this center serves.

Our elderly and not so elderly physically and mentally challenged folks in this group will lose friends, a caring environment and a purpose for the day. Many will go without food and medications, physicians’ appointments and the many other multitude of seen and unseen needs served by the caring and professional staff of the center.

Our mother may require nursing home care due to the loss of this center in her life. The new friends and courage to face new challenges have given her a stability and renewed strength to carry on. I do not know what will happen to her and the others losing this outlet.

The staff and center have been angels, of mercy to our family and many other families. We pray this decision could be reconsidered and thought through again.

If the powers that be of the Western Maryland Health System amid keep this facility in operation, the decision would lend to many a more positive outlook on the new facility on Willowbrook Road.
