PSC swept in season opener

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. — Potomac State College opened the 2008 season at Young Harris College and dropped a pair of games Saturday, 11-2 and 5-2.

In the first game, Young Harris was led by Michael Glantz who had a home run, two singles and four runs batted in. Also contributing for the Young Harris attack was Trevor Collias, who added a double and two singles, and Michael Hornsby who also had a double and two singles.

Potomac State tied the game at one in the fourth when Mike Smith opened the inning with a single. He moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Kevin Griffin and scored one out later on a single by Jacke Healey.

Young Harris then took the lead in the bottom of the inning on an RBI ground out by Dan Warzon that scored Derrick Lowery who doubled to open the inning. Young Harris broke the game open with multiple runs in the middle innings.

Andy Altemus took the loss giving up two runs in 3 2/3 innings of work. The sophomore gave up five hits, struck out two and walked one.

Potomac State was led at the plate by Justin Grantham who doubled, singled and scored a run. Healey had two singles with an RBI. Matt Schrader added an RBI ground out.

In the second game, Hornsby’s two-run double in the bottom of the fourth gave Young Harris a 5-2 lead and they were able to hold off Potomac State to complete the sweep.

Chris Szafran led PSC with a double, single and an RBI.

PSC and Young Harris will complete the three-game series with a single game today starting at noon.
