Trojans shake off rust, Montgomery-Rockville

CUMBERLAND - Drew Suttmiller belted a grand slam and drove in five runs, and Ryan MacNamara fired six shutout innings as Allegany College overpowered Montgomery-Rockville, 12-1, Tuesday afternoon.

It was the home debut and Maryland JUCO opener for the Trojans who, because of inclement weather, hadn't played since returning from a four-game series at Lenoir (N.C.) 10 days ago.

Suttmiller, who knocked in a run in the second inning when the Trojans took a 2-0 lead, belted a grand slam in a five-run third that made it 7-0. The game was shortened to 6 1-2 innings by the 10-run rule.

That was more than enough support for MacNamara, who improved his personal record to 2-0 by scattering four hits, walking only two and striking out five in 6 2-3 innings. John Byrum got the final out in the seventh.

Lee Bainbridge added a double and single, Chad McCoy had a two-run single, and A.J. Czap knocked in a pair of runs with a single and sacrifice fly for Allegany, which finished with 12 hits.

Rockville's seventh-inning run was unearned.

Allegany (2-3) will host Garrett in a rescheduled game today at 3 p.m.
